"Goldas Jewelry Design Summer School" organized by Goldas Jewelry since 2004 took place in Dalyan between 25th of June and 2nd of July with the participation of students from twenty one universities from Turkey and Russia.
Goldas's project, which aims to contribute to the education of young designer candidates, is realized with a different theme every year. Goldas Jewelry Design Summer School was hosted in Dalyan, which has magnificent historical and natural beauties, in its fourth year. "Karia, the Land of Grand Peaks and Tufted Helmets" was chosen as this year's concept of Goldas Jewelry Design Summer School that gathered students from twenty universities from Turkey and students from Russia.
The summer school, where the authentic culture of Karians', a native community from Anatolia, was reflected to Jewelry design, gained an international dimension in its fourth year. Hosting four students and a lecturer from A. N. Kosigina Moscow State Textile Institute from Russia, the school allowed the students to gain new experiences and took place in an environment where close friendships were built.
Dr. Altan Ture, Archaeologist and Researcher in Jewelry History, and Aytul Apalak, Lecturer in Dokuz Eylul University, were the consultants in the summer school where the rich cultural heritage of Anatolia was reinterpreted by young designer candidates. Olgu Tukel Kalis and Funda Ince from Goldas Design team shared their knowledge and experiences with the students during the workshop studies.
Coming from schools in different provinces from Istanbul to Erzurum, the students traced the Karians, which were one of the oldest communities in Anatolia, in Dalyan with the excursions they made during the summer school. Visiting Kaunos Antique City that was among the natural beauties of Dalyan, the students adapted the authentic and rich culture of the Karians, which became famous with harsh warriors and master sailors, to Jewelry with the drawings they made.
Looking for an inspiration source for their designs during the excursions, summer school students made a boat trip in Koycegiz Lake in addition to Kaunos Antique City and visited Dalyan Sultaniye Spas that are famous with their medicinal springs. Fethiye Museum, where very precious art works from Gocek and Fethiye are exhibited, was also among the excursion route of the students.
In the summer school where history, nature and art were combined, the students who reinterpreted the traces of past in their designs had the opportunity to get precious information thanks to the presentations made by the consultant instructors and Goldas designers during the nights.
Summer school students not only made some design studies but also experienced the beauties of Dalyan where the nature displays all its generosity. Moving on their boat among the labyrinth-like reedy of Dalyan, a calm and peaceful county in the Aegean, the summer school team did not miss the chance to take a mud bath in Sultaniye Spas, of which the history goes back to thousands of years ago and that is famous with its medicinal springs. They enjoyed the sea on Iztuzu Beach, which is one of the reproductions areas of giant water turtles Caretta Carettas. You have the chance to swim in fresh water and in the sea as well on Iztuzu Beach that also has the award for being the second beach in the world that protects its nature.
Being made by the students by using all their creativity, the designs were evaluated by the jury in terms of compliance with the concept, ergonomics and aesthetics on the last day of the summer school. Eleven designs of nine students were placed in the competition in Goldas Jewelry Design Summer School where the youngsters traced the Karian culture and reflected their impressions to their designs.
